Things started off on the wrong foot the night before. Somehow, Taylor, who was also doing the tri, decided that sushi was the way to go for a meal the night before. As I really didn't want to argue with my husband and they had already made the decision, I complied. WRONG idea...I usually have some good protein and carbs the night before.
Sunday morning I woke up at 5:45 and had my usual bowl of 2 packets of instant oatmeal. After getting everything together I rushed out the door...without even making my PB&J sandwich that I like to eat after I get transition setup. Another WRONG thing to do!
So at 9:00 when the first wave goes off, I am already hungry! I figure I can't do anything about it and try and stay warm. The water was 70 degrees, air temp about 60 degrees! I was the 3rd wave in and I settled into my groove and only got run over once! Once again my arms felt heavy at the end. I'm thinking it was the cold and the fact my arms were shaking before we started. Once out of the water, I was trying to decide if I wanted to wear the jacket I brought for the bike...NAH...it was sunny and I didn't feel too cold.
Off on the bike, it took a while for my legs to adjust, once again, I think the cold took some energy out of me. Once I found my groove I felt really good and started passing people! YIPPEE, that's a great feeling! At about mile 10 we turned east, right into a head wind...have I mentioned I HATE wind! My legs really started feeling it and I think a couple people I had passed in turn passed me back...bummer! All in all it was a decent bike, but it could have been better.
Off to the run, oh yeah, the run. It felt HORRIBLE! I couldn't get my feet up, my legs felt like dead weights! I did run all the way to the first water station...which I think was the first mile. Walked a little and drank some water, then it all went downhill. As soon as I thought I had a good rhythm, my heartrate would sky-rocket! Walk, breath control, start running again. That's how it was for the last 2.1 miles! Yep winter project...running!
I really think my lack of proper nutrition had a huge part in it. For Hickory Grove, I had pasta from Olive Garden for lunch on Friday and pasta for dinner. Saturday I had some leftover pasta for lunch, and a good balanced meal for dinner. That morning I had my 2 packets of oatmeal, a PB&J and a banana after set-up, and I had a good race and felt good....so that is my meal plan next year!!

Swim - 10:29 - 1 min slower than HG, but it was colder too!

Bike - 48:49 avg of 17.6mph - I think this was only 14.5 instead of 15miles
T2 - 1:11
Run - 35:46 - avg of 11:32 per mile Total time - 1:37:41
Working on my training plan for this winter to maintain, work on running, and more strength training! Next year I'm going to be a lean mean tri machine...hee hee
